Yr 5 & 6 – How can we make connections between real life events and our Inquiry? Year 5 and 6 have been inquiring into how we decide. How do we decide on our school leaders and who decides our nation leaders? Our final inquiry is about how we use preferential voting to decide on which political party had the best election campaign. We had a special guest from the Victorian Electoral Commission come in and educate us further about our Australian democracy and preferential voting. Ask your child what they know about Government and voting!
Yr 5 & 6 STEM Education Today a group of 8 year 5/6 students went to a STEM workshop in the city facilitated by an education company named AKORN. Stem stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM Education is an inquiry approach to learning, something we are already doing at our school. The only difference is that it focuses on integrating the 4 above learning areas. During this workshop, students were asked to complete 2 challenges. The first was to work collaboratively to use design and mathematics skills to create a shelter that took into consideration people with disabilities. The next task was to use materials to create an assistive device/product for a persons with disabilities. Students were critical and creative thinkers, collaborators and problem solvers. On the 23rd of May, AKORN will come to the school and run a whole day STEM workshop with all the students in year 5/6, with the students who attended todays’s workshop, helping to lead the learning.  There will be another workshop later in the year. These workshops will have a focus around developing design solutions to meet community needs. At the end of the year, a team of 6 students will have the opportunity to showcase their designs and projects at a STEM Mad showcase to other students from different  schools at the Catholic Leadership Centre. At home: have a chat about a problem or need at home that you can’t resign and create a solution for. What are some of your ideas for this? Can you work collaboratively as a family to design and create a protocol for a solution tour your problem?
Yr 3 & 4 – How do we order 3 & 4 digit numbers? Today we worked in groups to order a set of numbers.  We looked at the numbers that are in the hundreds tens and ones place when we ordered them.  Can you find 5 numbers and order them using this strategy?
Seussical Jnr Production – Auditions are underway! Today the Auditions for the main characters of our Seussical Jnr Production began. The students are sharing their performance and expressive skills with us to determine who is best suited to each role. They are being brave, confident and taking a risk, they should be very proud of their efforts. Our staff are also tuning in to the production and how it supports our school community. As your child about the Production or find out more in our May Newsletter.
Yr 4 – How can I construct a baby bird from a foam foundation ? Year 4 students had lots of fun creating these magical baby birds in preparation for Easter. We thoroughly enjoyed our last lesson. We wish you a happy and safe Easter.
Preps – How do we write i time questions? Today we thought about what i time questions we could write to research next term. We are so excited.
