Physical Education

The students at St. Bernadette’s engage in a Physical Education Curriculum which offers a broad range of experiences. The students in the junior years focus on fundamental movement, including introduction to athletics through play, ball handling skills and transferring these skills into minor games and athletics events. The students in the middle and upper years receive coaching to increase their competence in applying techniques to enhance their performance in minor and major games and through their participation in an athletics program.

The students in Year Prep – Year Four participate in a swimming program at Paul Sadler Swimland nearby, in Braybrook. The Year Two – Year Four program is in Term 1 and the Year Prep – Year One program is in Term 4.

All students participate in an athletics program, where the junior students gain an introductory experience through athletics play, with the opportunity to engage in recognized athletics events. The middle and upper years gain experience in honing their techniques in a wide range of athletics events, with the opportunity to represent our school in the District Athletics Carnival during Term 3.

The students in the upper years represent our school in sports of their preference in the District Interschool Competition. This takes place during Term 2 and Term 4 respectively.

Although we are situated within the area of North Sunshine, we are aligned with the Footscray District, a highly regarded organisation which seeks to provide our students with the best opportunities possible.

Our school has developed partnerships with various sporting clubs and organisations, whereby expert coaches run clinics on the school grounds during school hours. In the past, our students have experienced clinics run by Western Bulldogs players, Cricket Victoria, The Melbourne Storm, Netball Victoria and the Melbourne Vixens, Tennis Victoria, and Soccer, with coaches from Juventus F.C. in conjunction with Brimbank Stallions.
